1930 changed Stockholm and Sweden changed the world. In this millennium, we face new challenges and a wholly different global situation. The Stockholm Exhibition is intended as a platform for the 21st century in much the same way as the 1930 exhibition was for modernism.
But the kind of exhibition that worked 80 years ago has to be adapted to our times. The challenges we face in Stockholm and globally are about linking together more than just the physical city: linking different structures and developing leadership and collaboration between politics, commerce, knowledge and citizens.
Therefore, the Stockholm exhibition of the 21st century should be built on long-term, organic processes where the exhibition functions as a tool for building and communicating knowledge; and also, by developing the area around Järva, for showing how ideas and visions transform into solid results.
